“Andy Muridzo – one of our own – has done it again!”

Mrs Agnes Siyakurima, the mother of Afro-fusion musician Kudzai Andrew Ngwenya, better known as ‘Andy Muridzo’, posted this message on the Porta Manyame Farmers Association WhatsApp group after the musician had been adjudged the ‘Best Chinyakare/Chimurenga’ musician at the recently held PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA).

The social media group was created by residents of Ward 25, Zvimba East.

A flurry of congratulatory messages followed.

“Congratulations to Andy. I wish him the best in his endeavours,” wrote Gift Karichi.

Another Zvimba resident chipped in: “This award shows that you are focused. We know where you came from and we are fully behind you. Keep it up!”

Mrs Siyakurima, a war veteran who is also known as Cde Rusike, said Andy was born in Bulawayo and did part of his primary education in The City of Kings before relocating to Parklands Farm in Zvimba East.

“I separated with his father when Andy was in Grade Five. After the separation, I left Bulawayo and settled at Parklands Farm just outside Norton.

“I then enrolled him at Kintyre Estate Primary School and then Porta Primary School.”

The musician, according to his mother, then did his secondary education in Uzumba.

“Although Andy did his secondary education at Musanhi Secondary School in Uzumba, Ward 25, Zvimba East is, and has always been, his home,” the musician’s proud mother said.
