Newborn baby dumped in alley

A NEWborn baby was found dumped in an alley along 2nd Avenue between George Silundika and Fife Street in Bulawayo on Friday morning, police have confirmed.

When Sunday News arrived at the scene, witnesses said the baby, which was already dead was found at around 9am by an unidentified elderly woman who was passing by and then alerted people who were near the area.

The baby was wrapped in cotton wool and newspapers which were stained with blood.

Witnesses also said they suspect that the baby might have been dumped the previous night or early morning.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.

“We are investigating a case of concealment of birth where we found the body of a newborn dumped in an alleyway along 2nd Avenue between George Silundika and Fife Street.

“We appeal to the members of the public to assist us in locating and identifying any person or woman that is suspected to have given birth,” said Insp Simango.

A witness who spoke on anonymity described the act as pure wickedness.
