NEWSDAY editor, Nevanji Madanhire, has resigned from his post after serving the Alpha Media Holdings publication for five years.
In a statement, the organisation’s human resources department said they were sad to announce Madanhire’s departure.
“We are sad to announce the departure of Nevanji Madanhire, NewsDay editor, from the business. Nevanji exits the business after five years of dedicated commitment to Alpha Media Holdings,” read the statement.
Nevanji was appointed editor of the NewsDay in January 2014 after having been editor of The Standard and deputy editor of The Zimbabwe Independent.
His departure is in line with the organisation’s restructuring exercise which will see Southern Eye move from a daily publication to a supplement within the NewsDay with effect from April 1, 2015, according to the statement.
The human resources department said:
“We’re happy for the time that we shared with Nevanji and are grateful for the invaluable contribution he has made to Alpha Media Holdings. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours”.
In the meantime, Wisdom Mudzungairi will be the acting editor of NewsDay.
Southern Eye was launched in 2013 to focus on the southern part of the country.
Alpha Media Holdings, which also publishes The Independent and The Standard, has been facing financial problems over the years and recently relocated from its Harare Central Business District premises to Graniteside industrial area as part of efforts to cut operational costs.
The company has already retrenched some of its workers, including senior employees. Some of the retrenched workers are, however, still to receive their full terminal benefits.
