Ngezi Platinum canter to seventh draw

They might have continued to remain the only team still to lose a 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match, the rate at which Ngezi Platinum Stars are drawing their games is beginning to worry their coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziwa.

The Mhondoro miners cantered to their seventh draw in 11 matches when being held by TelOne at Baobab yesterday, a feat that is not pleasing Mutikuwekuziwa, who feels it’s more points being dropped than gained.

Malvin Gaki put Ngezi Platinum Stars ahead in the 28th minute when he came to an end of a Farai Madhanhaga cross.

TelOne responded just five minutes after resumption via their veteran forward Tawanda Macheke. Despite extending their unbeaten run, Mutiwekuziwa believes Ngezi should learn to close out games rather than being content with draws.

“We need to start to convert these draws into wins.

“We need to capitalise home advantage and start getting some wins, especially at home,” said Mutiwekuziwa.

“We played well, but I think the problem is that we are not taking the chances that are coming our way.

“We had a good first half, but I think TelOne came back a more rejuvenated side, and we played well to contain them,” he said.

TelOne were the more aggressive side taking control of the match and pegging back Ngezi. But somehow, they allowed the hosts to seize the initiative for the remainder of the first half.
