WASHINGTON Pakamisa made a happy return to the domestic Castle Lager Premiership when he scored his first goal of the season to seal a comfortable win for Ngezi Platinum Stars in a battle of rookies at Sakubva yesterday. Pakamisa, who is returning after spending some time in Mozambique, played a crucial role for the platinum miners when he provided the assist for the second goal and then bagged the third with nine minutes remaining.

Innocent Sokoli and Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the other goals as Ngezi Platinum made a perfect start to life in the Premiership. Ngezi Platinum surged ahead just 10 minutes into the match after ageing Mutare City leftback Mike Nyamukasa upended speedy Sokoli inside the penalty box.

Referee Tinashe Marange, son of retired Fifa panel referee Kenny Marange who was also making his Premiership debut, pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Sokoli who beat ‘keeper Philip Nhete.

Dzvukamanja then ghosted from the blind side to double the lead for the platinum miners after pushing home Pakamisa’s cross that had flown past the face of goal.

In the 81st minute, Pakamisa added his name on the scoresheet when he got to the end of a neat exchange of passes and beat a diving Nhete. Ngezi Platinum coach Clifton “Somalia” Kadurira praised his charges.

“I think we started well and managed to get the goals we wanted. We’re new to Premiership football and they (Mutare City Rovers) are also new hence getting a result like this one will go a long way in boosting our morale. It’s a good result as we fight to avoid relegation,” said Kadurira.
