WORLD Navi Northern Region Division One sides, Ngezi Platinum and Suri Suri, have approached the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) to play in the league. The platinum miners finished fifth last season in the Northern Region while Suri Suri will be making their debut. CSL chairman Felton Kamambo confirmed that the clubs had approached them. He said that they had set conditions for their co-option in the league.
“Following our annual general meeting we held over the weekend we resolved that the league should have 18 teams, which means we are retaining 12 teams from the past season and then we have four which were promoted and a slot for Shabanie Mine who were relegated from the PSL.
“The final slot will be reserved for a club which will be able to meet CSL conditions to be able to take part in the league. Already there has been interest from Ngezi Platinum and Suri Suri from the Northern Region and we have said to them because of the distance there should cover some of the costs incurred by visiting clubs or switch base say to Kwekwe,” he said.
The CSL was created as the fourth football region in the country to cater for teams mainly from the Midlands and Matabeleland South.
However, clubs from outside these provinces have also found their way into the league such as army side Tongogara and Mashava based, Gaths Mine who are in Masvingo Province.
Kamambo said clubs that will be joining the league this season will go through an induction workshop.
“We are now going to be holding induction workshops to deal with indiscipline and this will be held on March 7 and the six clubs that will be joining the league will be in attendance,” he said.
