NGO on clean-up campaign in Kariba

Sunday Mail Correspondent

A youth-led environmental conservation non-governmental organisation, Keep Zimbabwe Beautiful (KZB), will launch its Don’t Mess Kariba anti-litter campaign in the tourist town next month.

The campaign is aimed at encouraging residents of Kariba, as well as domestic and foreign tourists, to keep the town clean.

KZB founder Mr Bob Riyete Mavende said the initiative seeks to support the Municipality of Kariba in addressing waste management challenges.

“One of the main objectives of the Don’t Mess Kariba campaign is to reduce the amount of waste in the town. Kariba is a beautiful town and this beauty needs to be enhanced through cleanliness. We are going to support the municipality in its waste management programmes, including recycling of waste, as well as collection and disposal of waste in Kariba.”

Mr Mavende said his organisation is cultivating a culture of zero tolerance to littering among the residents and tourists.

“The emphasis on recycling is a sustainable waste management strategy that represents a paradigm shift from the conventional collection and waste disposal practices,” he said.
