FOLLOWING his appointment as Gwanda Pirates head coach, former Highlanders and Warriors midfield maestro Johannes “Tshisa” Ngodzo says he’s relishing the new challenge.
Ngodzo was unveiled as the Gwanda Pirates boss on Wednesday, following his departure from Zifa Southern Region Division One side, Adachi FC. Gwanda Pirates will be playing in the Zifa Central Region Division One League.
“It’s always good to have a new challenge. I appreciate the belief and trust shown in me. The key thing will be teamwork as we strive to achieve our 2025 goals. The club’s colours (black and white) really appeal to me. They remind me of my former club, Highlanders,” said Ngodzo.
Ngodzo’s coaching career is also impressive, with previous roles at Bantu Rovers Juniors, Bulawayo City Under-20s, and assistant coach at Bulawayo City under Mandla ‘Lulu’ Mpofu and Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu.
“Gwanda Pirates FC is excited to welcome Ngodzo on board, bringing his wealth of experience and expertise. As the club prepares for the 2025 season, Ngodzo’s appointment is expected to inject new energy and momentum.
“We are delighted to have Johannes ‘Signature’ Ngodzo join us. His impressive playing and coaching career speaks for itself, and we believe he will be invaluable. We wish him all the best,” the club said in a statement.
Gwanda Pirates, established just a year ago, won the league title in their debut season in the Zifa Matabeleland South Division Two League.
This weekend, Gwanda Pirates will play a friendly against Ngodzo’s former club, Highlanders, at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda.
