FORMER Mufakose Tennis Coaching Agency director Albert Nhamoyebonde will this year be honoured for his outstanding work in the suburb through a tournament to be held next week.
Nhamoyebonde produced many players who went on to make a big impression in the country and he will be honoured at a two-day tournament.
The Albert Nhamoyebonde Tennis Tournament will be held on February 20 and 21 at Harare Sports Club.
Tournament co-ordinator Richmore Murape said they felt it was important to honour Nhamoyebonde for what he did for Zimbabwe tennis.
“Nhamoyebonde did quite a lot to promote tennis in Mufakose and several players went on to play at the highest level,” said Murape.
“He even produced such players like the late Claudio Murape.
“He is someone who has always had a passion for the game and most of his products are still making waves in the sport. So far, we have 120 players who have registered for the event and we expect the numbers to increase as the event draws nearer.”
The organising committee is made up of players who were identified by Nhamoyebonde and most of them are now into tennis coaching and refereeing.
“We have Gabriel Nkomo, Martin Dzuwa, Shepherd Manyumbu and Lazarus Manjoro among others in the committee that is organising the tournament.
“The event is expected to become an annual one and we need to fund raise for a charity group that will continue with the good works of Nhamoyebonde of identifying talent in the high density suburbs,” added Murape.
