Nhimbe Fresh Export equipment to be auctioned

Business Reporter

Nhimbe Fresh Export, one of Zimbabwe’s leading horticultural producers, is set to have its high-tech infrastructure and plant equipment auctioned following a legal battle with First Capital Bank.

The auction, sanctioned by the High Court and instructed by the Sheriff of Marondera, would be held tomorrow.

Nhimbe chief executive Dr Edwin Moyo, however, said the company was challenging the sale at the High Court.

The auction presents a significant blow to the firm once hailed as one of the country’s largest horticultural producers. The auction will be conducted by KM Auction Zimbabwe at the horticultural company’s Marondera estates.

The scheduled sale targets the core of Nhimbe’s “green energy” and processing capabilities.

Among the primary items listed to go under the hammer are a high-voltage solar system, including solar panels and industrial-grade solar batteries, alongside diesel-powered generators.

A peach-grading machine, stainless steel grading tables, multiple cold room units and large-scale irrigation systems essential for maintaining export-quality produce are also expected to go under the hammer.

Owned by prominent businessman Dr Moyo — the former owner of the famed Kondozi Estate and a major shareholder in TZI Limited, formerly listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange — Nhimbe had recently emerged as a key player in Zimbabwe’s horticultural revival.

Operating across the Rakodzi, Sable Range, and Churchill farms, the company gained international acclaim for its “green” transition, powered by a 1,9 megawatts solar plant.

The company’s diverse export portfolio, which anchors its international standing, features a range of premium berries, including raspberries, strawberries, and the trademark OZblu blueberries.

Nhimbe also maintains large-scale production of stone fruits, specifically peaches and nectarines, tailored for high-end global markets. It also produces a diverse selection of vegetables, encompassing mange tout, sugar snaps, fine beans, and chillies, all of which are primary staples in the firm’s shipments to the United Kingdom, European Union, and the United Arab Emirates
