Nigeria to drop stars for Warriors tie

THE duo of Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface and AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze are facing the prospect of getting dropped from the squad of the Nigeria senior national football team when the team list is trimmed to 23, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Both players were named in the 39-man provisional list of players called up by head coach Eric Chelle for the World Cup qualifiers games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe respectively later this month.

Both players were sure bets for the team at the start of the year, but a poor run of form at club level had cast doubt over their involvement with the coach Chelle unimpressed by their limited game time at club level, and poor performance for the Super Eagles in previous games.

Sources close to Chelle say he is big on players playing regularly and that was why players like Sadiq Umar, Paul Onuachu, Nathan Tella , Joe Aribo and Cyriel Dessers were named in the provisional list.

Unless their situation at club level improves in the coming days, they could be dropped with the coach likely going for Nathan Tella and new boy Anthony Dennis in their position. — OwnGoalNigeria.com/Sports Reporter.
