Paul Pindani in CHINHOYI
A VARSITY student, Leo Ugochukwu Obinna, has ventured into hip hop.
Obinna is a Nigerian student studying Social Work at Women’s University in Africa.
He is currently doing his attachment at Chinhoyi Town Council.
The hip hop rookie told H- Metro he was inspired to venture into the world of music by one of his friends Mimmo Mutupo.
He sings about social issues such as drug abuse, love and religion.
Some of his songs are ‘I Believe’, ‘So Many Questions’, ‘Broken Heart’, ‘Mhere Paden’, ‘Turn Back Time,’ ‘Holy Ghost’, ‘Glory Days’, ‘Only You’, ‘These Days’, ‘Underdogs’, ‘Change’, ‘Violence’, ‘Ghetto Affiliation’ and ‘Violence Part 2’.
“So far I have managed to release 11 songs which were produced at Morelife Studio here in Chinhoyi.
“I use the stage name 2Gee and my producers are El Batx and YB Flow,” said Obinna.
He is a devout Roman Catholic.
“My parents were not mad at me for plunging into music.
“They are very supportive and are okay with it,” said Obinna.
Obinna dreams of doing a collaboration with Suhn and Tanto Wavie, who is his favourite artist.
“I am still single,” said Obinna.
“Taking drugs on stage does not boost confidence, people should believe in themselves.
“Zim Hip Hop is going to be recognised in other parts of Africa in the next five years.”
