GREENFUEL not only recorded the biggest win on Match Day 31 of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, but the Chisumbanje side also benefitted immensely from results elsewhere as the relegation battle enters the last three rounds.
Rodwell Dhlakama’s Boyz Dze Nharo moved out of the relegation zone, thanks to a superior goal difference, after a 5-0 thumping of relegated Kwekwe United at the Green Fuel Arena on Saturday.
Greenfuel moved to 34 points, the same as Triangle United, Manica Diamonds and Dynamos.
Bikita Minerals also hauled themselves out of the drop with a 3-0 victory against Herentals on Sunday.
The Lithium Boys are now two points clear of Manica Diamonds, who occupy the last relegation spot. Those results saw Dynamos slip back into the red zone following their 1-1 draw against Highlanders at Barbourfields on Sunday.
Manica Diamonds are also swimming in murky waters after losing 0-1 against CAPS United at Rufaro on Sunday. Despite the win, Makepekepe are still not safe from relegation, yet they occupy ninth position after 31 rounds of action.
Only four points separate CAPS United and Dynamos, who are third-from-the-bottom.
In fact, the relegation battle still involves nine clubs – CAPS United, Highlanders, Chicken Inn, Bikita Minerals, Triangle United, Greenfuel, Manica Diamonds, Dynamos and Yadah.
With at least 39 point required for a team to survive, Makepekepe might need one point in their last three matches to ensure safety.
They will play Chicken Inn (away), MWOS (home) and Kwekwe United (away).
Yadah, who are second from bottom with 31 points, could lose their Premiership status if they lose their next match against Herentals at the Heart Stadium. The Miracle Boys also still have to play Dynamos at Rufaro and Simba Bhora at Wadzanai.
DeMbare, who need at least five points from their last three matches, have one big advantage.
They will play all their last three matches at Rufaro, their favourite hunting ground for decades.
DeMbare will host Bikita Minerals on Match Day 32, before facing Yadah and FC Platinum at the same venue. Dynamos striker Jairos Kasondo is convinced his club will not drop into Division One.
“I don’t think Dynamos will be relegated, they are a big football institution with a rich history.
“It will be more of a taboo if Dynamos were to be relegated,” Kasondo said. The Banket bred striker scored the equaliser, as Dynamos rallied from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Highlanders at BF on Sunday. Kasondo also scored when Dynamos edged CAPS United at Rufaro on Match Day 29.
“Scoring against big opponents is always great,” said Kasondo.
