NINE months after a Bulawayo man died while serving time in a South African prison, his body remains unclaimed as police continue efforts to locate his relatives.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has since launched an appeal to help trace the family of the late Milton Gumbo (32), who died on 17 September 2024 while incarcerated at Nelspruit Correctional Centre in Mpumalanga Province.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said Gumbo was born on 25 August 1992 in Bulawayo and was last known to have been living in Luveve suburb with his brother, identified as Crymore Gumbo.

“We are appealing to members of the public for information that may assist in locating the family of the now-deceased Milton Gumbo. His body has been unclaimed for nine months and efforts to trace his relatives have so far been unsuccessful,” said Insp Msebele.

She urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of his relatives to report to the nearest police station.

“The purpose of this appeal is to ensure the next of kin are properly notified and that appropriate repatriation or burial arrangements can be made,” said Insp Msebele.
