Nine years for robbing taxi driver

Mr Kachambwa sentenced him to 12 years and  suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.

A further year was suspended on condition he restitutes the complainant US$666 on or before December 31 this year. The State proved that on January 1 at  around midnight the complainant was parking his vehicle a Toyota Spacio at Sports Diner along Samora Machel Avenue.
Tanzima in the company of one Cain Gambora alias Tafadzwa who is still at large had hatched a plan to steal a car. The pair boarded a commuter omnibus to town.

Tafadzwa who was the alleged mastermind hired the taxi for US$5 to go to Braeside where Tanzima had been left to ambush the driver. In Braeside Tafadzwa ordered the taxi driver to stop so that he could disembark and pay the fare. The complainant was suddenly approached by Tanzima who pulled him out of his vehicle before bundling him into the backseat.

Tafadzwa took control of the vehicle and Tanzima tied the complainant’s hands and legs with shoelaces.
They stole his G-Tide and Nokia cellphones and some cash before dumping him in Prospect.

The car was later dumped near Glen View Recreational Park and was discovered on January 3.
The vehicle was valued at US$4 400. The complainant reported the matter leading to Tanzima’s arrest.
