Chitungwiza Central Hospital chief executive officer Dr Obediah Moyo said 28 babies were delivered at the institution, an increase from last year’s 20.
“We had 13 boys and 15 girls who were delivered normally. I must admit it has been a very busy Christmas, but we’ll always offer 24-hour service to the public,” said Dr Moyo.
Harare Central Hospital had 35 deliveries, an increase from 28 deliveries last year.
Thirty-one were through normal delivery and included a set of twins, while four were delivered through Caesarian section.
Fourteen of the babies were boys while the other 17 were girls.
Parirenyatwa’s Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital recorded 27 deliveries, an increase from 19 last year.
The total number of babies included 15 boys and 11 girls.
Nineteen were normal deliveries, while eight others were born through caesarian sections.
Mothers who spoke to The Herald expressed pleasure for having given birth on Christmas Day.
A nurse at Harare Hospital admitted it had been a busy Christmas Day, with the majority of children being born without difficulties.
“As you can see, the number of babies born through the caesarian section is few showing that the majority of the mothers gave birth without any problems,” she said.
