From the Toyota family we have the Etios. This is a spirited new car, which represents Toyota’s foray into the highly popular small budget vehicle segment after the legendary Tazz whose production was terminated in 2006.
After the Tazz there was a yawning gap in Toyota’s line-up for an entry level, high quality, affordable small run around. The new Etios is very competitive as it meets all the requirements in its segment. It is reasonably priced, has low running costs, high performance, quality finishes, plus a little extra – a great personality. It is the most comfortable car in its class with plenty of space to spare. You can get three people in the back seat with ease.
The rear seat can be folded to extend the versatility of the cargo area so you can be a pack rat of note. Its glove compartment can swallow a maxi bag or even a laptop and there will still be enough space for your takeaways.
Like the Nissan Micra, it is also powered by a 1,5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, it also has superb exterior styling and long wheel bases. The five-door hatch has a huge boot that accommodates 595 litres which is very generous for its class. This car is more suited to junior managers, or mothers who have hectic school runs.
It’s comfortable, stylish, practical and fuel efficient. All models come standard with aircon, ABS, airbags and power steering. So there you have it, impressive, on a budget, easy to maintain and very practical.
