Gospel musician Nkosi Herman appears to have found the right note with his latest live single, UJesu Ngiyamthanda, which is taking social media by storm and inspiring a growing challenge among gospel music lovers.
Released last month, the Mbaqanga-infused gospel track is a heartfelt celebration of a Christian’s love for Jesus and gratitude for His blessings.
Its catchy melody and easy-to-sing lyrics have struck a chord with listeners, with fans taking to social media to sing and dance along to the song. For Herman, the growing response has been nothing short of encouraging. He said the reception the song received when he first performed it at this year’s Ekhaya Worship Festival, hosted by Everton Mlalazi, gave him the confidence to finally release it.
“I wrote this song sometime last year, but was reluctant to release it as I felt something was missing. During my performance at Ekhaya Worship Festival, I decided to tease and perform the song, and I was surprised by the response as worshippers fell in love with it.
“Performing it to more than 15 000 people, with them singing along to a song they did not know, gave me goosebumps. I told myself I had found the niche. That inspired me to officially release the song,” he said.
The song’s momentum has continued to grow beyond the festival stage.
Herman recently performed UJesu Ngiyamthanda at gospel musician Takesure Zamar Ncube’s One Sound – The Roar of Many Waters concert in Harare on August 14, where he was once again surprised by the audience’s response.
“I performed the song recently in Harare and, to my surprise, people were singing along again. I believe UJesu Ngiyamthanda has the potential to become a bigger song because it has all the ingredients of a hit. It is catchy and easy to sing.
“The support from gospel music fans has been exciting and I appreciate all the gestures. It is trending on social media and now has a challenge, with many people engaging with it.
“I believe God has opened a door in my life and I trust that my story in the music industry will change forever,” said Herman.
