THE country’s sports regulating body – the Sports and Recreation Commission – has stamped its authority by declaring that without the bio secure bubble, there shall be no return of football action.
In a press statement, the SRC wrote: “It is clear that any return to top flight football at this stage can only happen if a full bio-secure bubble environment is implemented where players and officials reside in controlled environments for the duration of the tournament. This is the position implemented by cricket and rugby, among other protocols, leading to
the various exceptions granted to them in the present environment.”
In the same statement, the SRC further noted that the revised lockdown measures are not just a sector-specific problem but that they seek to minimise the impact of the pandemic on citizens.
“It is within the SRC’s purview to provide guidance to stakeholders in the sector that is responsive to the prevailing Covid-19 situation. This is in the best interest of the public.
Regardless, it is important for the varied sports and recreation stakeholders including the general public to understand that the revised lockdown measures are not just a sector-specific problem but that they seek to minimize the impact of the pandemic on citizens.
“While actions taken by the Commission shall always aspire to address the greater public interest, it is inevitable that certain individual interests might appear to have been undermined but such costs must be weighed against the higher public health benefits of decisions so taken.”
