NO ECOSPORT…SuperSport Utd say club is not for sale

SUPERSPORT United have dismissed reports that the club’s franchise is being sold to Zimbabwe’s billionaire businessman, Strive Masiyiwa.

Reports emerged on Tuesday claiming the South African Premiership side were on the verge of being sold to the Econet Wireless founder.

The unverified report took social media by storm although the country’s mainstream media decided to watch from a distance.

The Pretoria-based club is owned by the MuitiChoice Group.

The reports claimed the franchise was being sold to deal with cash flow challenges at the club and the company’s decision to invest more in the South African Premiership.

However, SuperSport United have denied these reports in a “club update” that was sent to the players and staff.

“SuperSport United has been made aware of the old repeated rumours and speculation regarding the potential sale of the club.

“Please note that these rumours are completely untrue. As stated when these false rumours started in 2019, the club is not for sale.

“The club is seeking legal advice on the publications or persons involved in continually issuing these false statements.”

This is not the first time that Matsatsantsa A Pitori have been reported to be on sale. – Sports Reporter/The Citizen
