BULAWAYO Chiefs head coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe isn’t sugarcoating anything – the battle for supremacy in the ZIFA Southern Region Division One is on, and he’s ready to throw punches!
Speaking ahead of their opening clash against Talen Vision, the seasoned gaffer made it clear that he’s not taking anything for granted in what promises to be a no-holds-barred campaign.
“We’re not naive to the fact that we are in a difficult league that has strong teams and many experienced coaches and that makes it very tough but we will try by all means,” said Jongwe.
The veteran tactician, who’s seen it all in Zimbabwean football, is approaching the season with both caution and confidence.
“We are completely in a new territory, what happened last year is already the past and we cannot dwell on that, let’s talk about how we are prepared for division one,” he said.
Jongwe said his squad isn’t here to make up numbers – they’re here to scrap, even on the roughest patches.
And with a team blend of war-hardened veterans like Kelvin Madzongwe and Malvin Mkoko, plus fresh talent such as 17-year-old Alfred Matonsi, Jongwe believes his side has the right formula.
“Even the baddest grounds will not be an excuse,” he declared.
With the whistle about to blow on the new season, all eyes will be on Jongwe’s Chiefs. Will they rise from the ashes of premiership relegation and dominate Division One – or get swallowed in the dust?
Either way, one thing is clear – this coach came to fight.
