adminJOHANNESBURG. — South African Premiership soccer side Mamelodi Sundowns have the option to extend attacking midfielder Khama Billiat’s contract, but do not appear to be in any rush to do so. Zimbabwean midfielder Billiat made the move from Ajax Cape Town to Sundowns in 2013 for what was understood to be a record-breaking transfer between two South African teams at the time.
The attacking player has managed to hold down a regular place in coach Pitso Mosimane’s plans and has gone on to score 17 goals for the Chloorkop-based outfit since his switch.
The Zimbabwean put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Downs, meaning he is under contract until the end of the current season. However, the club do have an option in the contract to extend the player’s stay by an extra year.
Sources have revealed that the club is expected to exercise their option but are in no rush to do so and are likely to finalise it sometime later this year or early next year. The Brazilians do not seem to worry about Billiat signing a pre-contract elsewhere in the January transfer window and, it is understood the club will open up talks with the player and his representative in the not too distant future.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have received a major boost with Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajila said to be back at training ahead of the team’s league encounter against Free State Stars. — Laduma.
