Harare City Council’s audit committee has recommended the upgrading of the local authority’s libraries so that they meet modern standards.
The committee yesterday toured libraries and swimming pools around the city to familiarise themselves with the facilities.
Speaking during the tour, the committee’s chairperson, Councillor Blessing Duma said there is need to modernise the operations of the libraries.
“Our libraries do not have WiFi and they are not up to date,” he said.
“The money paid by people to use our libraries must be invested back into the facilities. As the audit committee, we are going to recommend that to the council.
“The majority of the books that we have are from donors. We have to reflect on our donor policy so that we can accept more books from the donor community,” said Councillor Duma.
