THE ultra-strict Aston Villa kingdom, where Marvelous Nakamba’s English Premiership romance is being nurtured, has been revealed and includes a £1 000 fine for reporting late for a meeting on Match Day.
Just as well the Warrior is yet to be sent off, since his arrival at Villa Park, otherwise that would have attracted another huge fine.
The players who were being sent off, before the arrival of Steve Gerrard, were ordered to take the entire team for a meal, within four weeks, of the expulsion.
It’s not clear whether the same strict fining regime still persists, after Gerrard’s arrival, but the former England captain has a reputation as a strict disciplinarian.
“Gerrard has already built a reputation as a strong disciplinarian from his time at Rangers and the start of his Aston Villa career,” the Mailonline reported yesterday.
“It is this attribute that appears to be a keen draw of the club’s owners, judging by the actions of his predecessors.
The Liverpool legend – who took over at Villa Park last November – is targeting a top-10 finish in the upcoming campaign. One of his first actions at the club was to introduce a ban on certain food items in the club canteen, including tomato ketchup.
“And a leaked list of fines at Villa Park, from before the 42-year-old’s arrival, shows that the ruthless approach is something the Villa chiefs take kindly to.”
The Mailonline first reported the cocktail of fines, which initially appeared on social media, following a club leak.
The wide-ranging fines include:
- £500 for arriving late for training.
- £100 for forgetting GPS for training.
- £200 for every minute which passes when the player arrives late onto the training pitch.
- £1000 for arriving late for a meeting, walk or the coach on Match Day.
- £200 for arriving late for the team coach.
- £200 for every minute which passes when a player arrives late for a meeting.
- £100 per item when a player comes with the wrong attire for Match Day.
- £100 per item for leaving plates and cups at the dinner table.
- £100 per item for leaving kit on the training pitch.
- £100 for illegal parking.
- £250 for arriving late for a commercial appearance.
- £50 a day for forgetting cakes on birthdays.
- £100 for no flips in the shower.
- £200 for not reporting by 10am for an appointment with a doctor for injury or illness.
- £200 for late physiotherapy treatment.
- £200 for snus being left everywhere.
- £50 for forgetting recovery leggings.
- £20 for being booked for dissent.
- If one is sent off, he has to take the entire team for a meal, within four weeks of the red card.
- Worst player in the small-sided games on Match Day 1 (as voted for by the winning team) will wear the ‘I WAS THE WORST TRAINER’ jumper the following week for Match Day 1 warm-up.
Nakamba has received a total of 16 yellow cards since his arrival at Aston Villa, but is yet to be sent off.
Thirteen of the yellow cards have come in league matches while the other three have come in Cup games.
“It is not the first time details of player fines have been leaked from the Villa Park dressing room,” the Mailonline reported.
“In 2016, Roberto Di Matteo’s Championship side were subjected to a list focused on punctuality, clothing and mobile phone issues.
“The late Gerard Houiller handed down a list of financial penalties so severe that it had stars considering their future at the club.
“The likes of Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Stiliyan Petrov were among players so disgruntled by the Frenchman’s attempts to arrest the club’s slump that they looked to leave in 2011, with mobile phones completely banned from the dressing room.” – Sports Reporter/Mailonline
