No room for excuses

THERE is no room for excuses now, and this is a fact Highlanders coach Mandla ‘Lulu’ Mpofu is fully aware of.
Much of Highlanders’ downgrade which has seen them failing to win the league championship since 2006 has been attributed to the club’s financial woes.

It has been a bumpy ride for Bosso financially over the years as it has been failing to buy quality players, pay salaries for players, clear its debts and its junior policy which in the past churned out players for the senior team, is now defunct.

Bosso fans are hopeful that following Sakunda Holdings’ three-year sponsorship the team’s performance will greatly improve.

Mpofu has been at Bosso for some time and understands the pressure that comes with the Highlanders’ top job.

Now that the club has the sponsorship that will enable it to meet most of its financial obligations, the focus will now be on Mpofu’s tactical and player management skills.

His players are refreshed and its now very conducive for him to spell out his vision and type of play.

This is a chance for him to prove that he alone can be the difference but the question is: is Mpofu ready for the challenge ahead?

“At highlanders there is always pressure to win. Money does not get you success, so we have to channel all our energy on making sure that we produce results. I am delighted we have managed to seal this deal. Certainly, there are no longer any excuses for not delivering,” said Mpofu.

“The boys had done well without resources and l feel we will only get better. It’s now up to us as the technical team to make sure that we deliver. Now the Highlanders family has to come together and work to give the sponsors the mileage they deserve.”

The Sakunda Holdings sponsorship package include cars for the coach and captain while Bosso will get US$450 000 to be channelled towards salaries and allowances while US$60 000 is for signing-on fees and US$60 000 for administrative expenses every season.

There will be a US$200 000 bonus for winning the league title, with a further US$150 000 set aside for qualification for the Caf Champions League. — @innocentskizoe
