FORMER Division One side Talen Vision striker Obidiah Tarumbwa is back in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after joining ambitious side Bulawayo Chiefs.
A source confirmed that Tarumbwa has joined the Ninjas ahead of the official transfer window that opens on New Year’s Day.
“Oba started training with Chiefs last month and has signed a contract which starts on January 1. Coach Nilton Terroso was impressed by Oba’s ball technique and football intelligence on the first day that he attended training,” the source said.
Tarumbwa (35) brings a lot of experience to Chiefs, with his career having taken him to Belgium, South Africa and Kenya.
Locally he played for Highlanders, Chicken Inn and Bantu Rovers.
The source said the club will beef up its squad with at least another four acquisitions during the international mid-season transfer window, which opens on Saturday.
The club is hunting for another striker, a goalkeeper, defender and midfielder.
Former national team defender Ian Nekati will also be registered next week.
Meanwhile, while other clubs have given their players leave and challenged them to keep fit on their own,
Chiefs said they will electronically monitor their players using GPS vests to check on their workouts during the holidays.
“The Ninjas will resume training on the 17th of January and players were given personal daily training programmes that the fitness team will be monitoring throughout the break.
We expect an exciting 2022 during which we expect to upgrade our relationship with our followers in various ways, including registering for membership. Those travelling, please don’t drive and type; always get home first, the message will still be there waiting.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year,” said Chiefs in a statement. – @ZililoR
