Senior Zanu-PF leaders in Masvingo have unanimously called for an end to factionalism and infighting in the province, saying the clean sweep of the 26 National Assembly seats in the July 31 harmonised elections was testimony that the party could achieve more by working in unison.
They said ending factionalism would also guarantee Zanu-PF’s political dominance in Masvingo.
Speaking at the Masvingo Polytechnic on Sunday during victory celebrations to thank the people of Masvingo for resoundingly voting for Zanu-PF and President Mugabe, the party leaders stressed the importance of a united Masvingo province as the revolutionary party moves to fulfill election promises.
Politburo member and Energy and Power Development Minister Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire said there was a need to end factional fighting within the party in Masvingo.
Cde Mavhaire paid tribute to President Mugabe for appointing eight ministers and deputy ministers from the province.
“We need to work together as a party and remain united and we should no longer have any room for factionalism within the party in this province,” he said.
“We should work as one united team with one common goal, that is to deliver on what we promised our people. I also want to thank the people of Masvingo for voting overwhelmingly for Zanu-PF and we managed to sweep all the 26 National Assembly seats because of our unity.
“I also want to thank President Mugabe for giving us eight ministerial and deputy ministerial posts, we reaped what we had sowed.”
Another Politburo member and Minister of State Responsible for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti said the task ahead was to deliver on the election promises made to the people during the elections.
He challenged the new ministers and deputy ministers from Masvingo to execute their duties with exceptional diligence.
“There should be no room for factionalism within Zanu-PF in Masvingo neither should we have leaders who seek political office using money,” said Cde Bhasikiti. “We will not tolerate such acts. We want leaders who are prepared to serve the people and we should deliver on our election promises. We must work to bring solutions to the nagging challenges that affect our people.”
Addressing the same gathering, Chiefs’ Council president Chief Fortune Charumbira exhorted the Zanu-PF leadership in Masvingo to shun factionalism.
“The issue of ending factionalism is very crucial,” he said. “We should no longer have any place for factionalism within Zanu-PF in Masvingo. We should work together and pull in the same direction for the benefit of our people and the province at large.”
Chief Charumbira highlighted the crippling hunger sweeping across most rural communities in the province, saying Government was supposed to expedite provision of food relief to avert starvation.
Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Cde Walter Mzembi said ministers and deputy ministers from Masvingo were supposed to collectively push the agenda of developing the province.
