The Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) conference and exhibition which opened today in Harare is expected to raise awareness among the public on the importance of science and technology as well as research and development.

SET conference and exhibition has attracted scientists from more than 35 higher and tertiary institutions countrywide.

In an interview, deputy director for the Ministry of Science and Technology Development Mr Justin Manyawu said the conference would assist the country to create a science culture which is ideal for the development of the nation.

“Science and technology is the bedrock of every nation’s development so we need to constantly engage in more seminars and practise what we showcase here in the industry. That way we can revive the local industry and rely on our own products.

“We need to show people the importance of science and technology as well as research hence that is why there are exhibitions from institutions as small as secondary schools,” he said.

The two-day seminar is running under the theme, “Science technology and innovation for sustainable development.”
