it is a sovereign state, Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has said.
He said this during a meeting with a delegation from a German non-government organisation, Help, in Harare yesterday.
The delegation, led by Help board vice-chairman Mr Klaus-Jurgen Hedrich, had paid a courtesy call on Cde Khaya-Moyo.
“We are looking forward to very peaceful elections, but we don’t want any interference from foreign countries,” he said.
“We have experienced interference from foreign countries in the past, but we are saying this is a Zimbabwean election and we should be allowed to have this election without interference.
“We hope that as we move to elections, we shall hear less and less noise from foreign countries.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said some foreign countries were already agitating to influence the election outcome.
He said it was Zimbabwe’s right to choose countries that could come and observe the elections.
He said the Americans had made it clear that they did not want observers at their elections, yet they wanted to observe other countries’ elections.
Cde Khaya Moyo said Zimbabwe was going to hold peaceful and credible elections.
Mr Hedrich said his country would remain apolitical on Zimbabwean politics.
“In Germany, the precondition is that we should not interfere with domestic politics.
“You (Cde SK Moyo) are definitely right as far as election observes are concerned. It is your right to choose who you want to observe them,” said Mr Hedrich.
He said the European Union would gladly accept the invitations if Government invited them to observe the next elections.
Cde Khaya Moyo said soon after Copac had finalised collating views from the Second All Stakeholders’ Conference, the draft constitution would then be sent to Parliament for debate.
From Parliament, the draft would then be taken to the President for his assent before it goes to the referendum, he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said after the referendum, the country would inevitably hold harmonised elections in March next year.
