No to vote-buying, imposing candidates— SK Moyo

He said some Politburo members were taking advantage of their positions to impose candidates, but the party would field only those approved by the people.

Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters at Magunje Growth Point in Hurungwe on Wednesday, Cde Khaya Moyo said provincial executives should be allowed to freely carry out their duties.

“You can’t brag and claim to have a province,” he said.

“Kuti vanhu vangu or province yangu. Hauna province uyezve hauna vanhu. We do not want to hear that again. People belong to the party. That is why we disbanded the DCCs. Let’s allow the provincial executives to run the provinces.”

Cde Khaya Moyo urged party members to reject the imposition of candidates, saying the practice brought defeat in previous elections.

“Hurungwe lost a constituency to MDC-T in the last election because of imposition of a candidate,” he said.

“Out of about 30 000 registered voters, only about 10 000 voted while the rest did not participate.”

Cde Khaya Moyo warned against vote buying saying those engaging in the vice should rather channel the large sums of money towards party programmes to strengthen it.

“People are not goats or chickens that can be bought, if anyone gives you such money to vote them please take the money and let us know. We will deal with such elements,” he said.

To ensure that only those candidates chosen by the people participate in the harmonised elections next year, Cde Khaya Moyo said the party would issue confirmation letters to successful candidates in primary elections for presentation at the nomination courts.

“Anyone trying to manoeuvre their way through the back door will be arrested by police at the nomination courts,” he said.

Cde Khaya Moyo accused some party leaders of having multiple farms where they were farming in partnership with white former commercial farmers.

He said such a practice defeated the principles of the revolutionary part and also thanked the party’s 10 provinces for endorsing President Mugabe as the party’s presidential candidate in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Cde Khaya Moyo urged eligible voters to register in time ahead of the plebiscite.

Politburo member Cde Edna Madzongwe, Mashonaland West Governor Cde Faber Chidarikire, Hurungwe Senator Cde Reuben Marumahoko and legislators Cdes Franco Ndambakuwa (Magunje), Sarah Mahoka (Hurungwe East) and Godfrey Beremauro (Hurungwe Central) attended the event.
