BULAWAYO’S rising all-female a capella outfit, Nobuntu, which is on its debut tour of Austria, was on Sunday forced to cancel one of its shows after members suffered from cold and sore throats due to the biting winter in that country. The group last week shared the stage with jazz artiste Jeys Marabini who was also on an Austrian tour as well as Austrian-based Insingizi.
Nobuntu reportedly put up a great performance at the Roots Music Southern Africa Festival held in Austria, last week.
On Sunday, the group took to its Facebook page to apologise for the last minute cancellation of the show.
“We would like to apologise for cancelling tonight’s show which was supposed to take place in Krumpendorf, Austria at six.
“This is due to the cold temperatures which we are not used to as it is our first time touring Europe in winter. We have fever, throat pain and cough. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused,” read the post.
Austrian based Insingizi member Vusa Mkhaya Ndlovu confirmed that the temperatures were very low in that country.
“It’s winter, the temperatures are between six degrees in the afternoon and minus one degree at night. One has to drink lots of Vitamin C and mint tea to take care of the voice and winter is just starting,” said Ndlovu.
Nobuntu has defied the odds and ventured into Imbube — a genre often viewed as a preserve for men. The five-member group is on a month-long tour and is expected back in the country next week.
Tswarelo Mothobe, a close associate of the group, said the tour had been a success as the group has had all shows sold out.
“They seem to be enjoying the tour and people loved them and all their shows were highly attended,” said Mothobe.
He confirmed that the ladies were affected by the extremely cold weather in Austria as they have not toured Europe before.
Nobuntu was formed in November last year and launched its debut album Thina early this year.
