BULAWAYO’s all-female imbube quintet, Nobuntu is currently on tour in the United States of America (USA) where they are scheduled to perform at least 23 times between January and March.
This is not the first time that the “Five Part” acappella vocal ensemble has been to the USA as they have toured in the past with their last visit in 2019.
Dubbed “Nobuntu USA Tour 2022” the trip will see the five Bulawayo ladies canvas a lot of states which include Florida, California, New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Georgia just to name a few.
The tour that commenced at the University of Georgia yesterday will end at the Door Community Auditorium in Wisconsin on March 25.
The ensemble’s speaker, Zanele “Zah” Manhenga said they are ready to mesmerise their American fans, especially after years of inactivity brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“For the past two years, travelling has been a nightmare and as musicians, we’ve suffered the most because of the Covid-19 pandemic which brought about travel restrictions. We’re glad that we can now perform again.
“Our American fan base is special because they’re hungry for our type of music and the reception over the years that we’ve toured this place has been tremendous,” Zah said.
She said those who will attend must expect a performance of a lifetime as they will be singing yesteryear hits.
“We’re going to give it our all and can’t wait to get started as we’ve also missed the States. We’re basically living the American Dream right now,” she said.
The globetrotting Nobuntu said given the adverse effects of Covid-19, it’s hard to map the way forward as “everything is now uncertain nowadays.”
Zah said doing more than 20 shows within a space of two months has been necessitated by the need to make ends meet since, for the greater part of the last two years, performances were few and far between.
Over the years, Nobuntu has drawn international acclaim thanks to their exciting performances and songs sung in native IsiNdebele, English and ChiShona languages.
The “Obabes Bembube” hit-makers have toured the globe performing in festivals and concert halls and have been to places like Austria, Canada, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and throughout the African continent. – @eMKlass_49
