NOKU FIGHTS FROM HER GRAVE. . . Outrage over Norton tragedy goes a notch higher

Paidamoyo Bore

IN yesterday’s edition, we ran a sickening story about a 15-year-old Grade 7 pupil, who died while giving birth at a church shrine in Masvingo, on Tuesday.

Most of our readers expressed anger at both the parents and their apostolic sect leaders, who forbid their members from seeking medical treatment from hospitals and clinics.

Below are some of our readers’ comments:

ZRP madii, hero basa asi ma neighbourhoods ekutuma hapana kani? Innocent Hatitye Vuta.

The person who raped that child must rot in jail. The child was too young to be pregnant. There was no prayer needed, she was supposed to be taken to hospital. But what’s wrong with some adults in Zimbabwe? Bro Sammy.

The parents should be arrested for neglect and child endangerment. The child being young and pregnant needed proper medical attention. Why ship a child to a shrine? The Aaron guy who impregnated the girl should also face the wrath of the law #NoToChildMarriage Petronella Sibusiso Mpofu.

They could not take her to the hospital because of church doctrine, but the mother was in hospital after she had a miscarriage. Victoria Pamela.

Why were the residents silent about the pregnancy? Pamakaona mimba yemwana ari underage you should have reported the matter. Why are people around becoming vocal now that the kid has died?- Tatenda Juru.

This is so sad; our girls must never be exposed to such. Mwanasikana Wanhasi.

Child marriages are a gross violation of the rights of a child. Sadly, even communities have become enablers. The woman speaking and all the others knew about this case, but were quiet about it, only to pretend to be concerned after the child died. This is a very sad reality. Happy Tendai Mayuni.

How does a grown up man sleep with a child? I’m more grieved that the mother is taking more blame than the father yet both are responsible. That’s GBV in its various forms. With some religious sects, women don’t even have a say at church or in the home. #stopGBV #stopChildmarriages. Fatima Bulla.
