N’OMBEYAWORA tightened their grip on the Northern Region Soccer League title race with a commanding 3-0 win over Ali Sundowns in a Mabvuku derby at The Heart Stadium yesterday.

Goals from Tadiwanashe Huni, Russell Chifura, and Elder Chirima sealed the victory, giving the log leaders a five point cushion over second placed Agama.

The result pushed N’ombeyawora to 60 points, strengthening their position at the top as the season enters its decisive phase.

Chirima’s strike took his tally to 10 goals, placing him in a five way tie for the league’s golden boot. He now shares the lead with teammate Tapiwa Chibunyu, Agama’s attacking duo of Tinashe Balakasi and Grey Kufandada, as well as Black Rhinos forward Ignatius Mavende.

Agama, who sit on 55 points, face a crunch clash against third placed Golden Eagles this afternoon at Ellis Robins High School. The result could have a major say in the title’s destiny.

Golden Eagles, eight points behind Agama, will bank on their lethal frontline of Clifton Chitsveta, Tatenda Hapazari, and Trevor Bunu. Between them, the trio have bagged 22 goals this season, with Chitsveta on eight and Hapazari and Bunu contributing seven each.

Agama, however, remain confident with Balakasi and Kufandada leading the attack. Both have already reached double figures, and their form will be crucial if Agama are to keep pace with N’ombeyawora.
