THE zifa Northern Region Division One have booted out three clubs from this year’s competition who failed to pay the affiliation fees on time. The three clubs are Commando Bullets, who have been plying their trade in the Northern Region league for quite some time, and two new clubs promoted from Division Two last year — DT Africa and ARV.
The three failed to meet the deadline that had been set for March 13.
The old clubs were supposed to pay US$2 800 as their affiliation fee and US$3 200 for new clubs.
However, the three failed to meet the deadline and the league’s leadership decided to withdraw Commando’s membership while for the new clubs they will not accept their membership.
The decision was made during a management meeting in Harare over the weekend.
ZIFA Northern Region league chairman, Willard Manyengavana, confirmed the development yesterday as he said 15 clubs have paid their affiliation fees in full.
“In total we have about 15 clubs, those have paid in full. So ours is an-18 team league and three teams have not been able to affiliate. Commando has not been able to pay. DT Africa have their own story and ARV have not been able to pay as well.
“DT Africa attended the general assembly where we agreed on the affiliation fee and later in January they wrote to us advising us that they will make payment in February and did not and in short we are saying as the management we have no authority to reverse resolutions made by the assembly,” he said.
The league has since recalled three clubs that were part of the six teams relegated last season. They have extended invitation to Lake Harvest, Seven Flames and Blue Swallows.
