Parliament has started conducting interviews for people to sit on independent commissions from those that had been short-listed by the Standing Rules and Orders Committee.
The interviews were to either fill vacancies created by resignation among other reasons while others were meant to constitute full commissions that were created because of the new Constitution.
Yesterday a sub-committee of the SROC chaired by Kuwadzana East MP Mr Nelson Chamisa (MDC-T) held interviews for people to sit on the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commi- ssion.
Other members of the interviewing panel were Senate president Edna Madzongwe, Mutare Central MP Mr Innocent Gonese, Masvingo Urban MP Dr Daniel Shumba, Chief Fortune Charumbira, Senators Thokozani Mathuthu and Angeline Masuku.
Mr Chamisa said the committee will submit the names of successful candidates to the SROC for its consideration before being forwarded to President Mugabe in line with the Constitution.
At least 10 candidates were short-listed and called for interviews to fill two vacancies that arose in ZEC while six candidates were short-listed for the ZHRC.
Some of the commissions where interviews will be conducted are the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.
The process, being held in full view of members of the public, will continue tomorrow in respect of other commissions and runs until Thursday.
At least 30 people have been short-listed for the Zimbabwe Gender Commission interviews to be held today while 33 people were short-listed for the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.
