THE 2015 topflight Northern Rugby League curtain comes down tomorrow (Saturday) with Mutare Sports Club taking on Harare Sports Club in an away fixture. Tomorrow’s match will be the last league fixture before entering the semi-finals where only the top four teams will sail through. Defending champions, Old Hararians are still sitting on top of the log after trampling over Old Johanians 103-6 last Saturday.
Old Georgians climbed up to second spot after defeating HSC 29-21 last Saturday displacing Sportivo, as HSC is affectionately known.
On the other hand, despite whichever way the pendulum swings in tomorrow’s match, Sportivo is set to clash again with OGS for a place in the finals, while OH will again face fourth placed OJS to book a spot in the finals.
Northern Rugby League coordinator, Donald Mangenje, said they used the one versus four and two versus three formats for the semi-finals.
Mangenje further revealed that the final as well as the third and fourth place play-offs are scheduled for October 3 at a venue to be announced.
MSC coach, Mackenzie Munetsi, said regardless of the odds against them they would give Sportivo a run for its money tomorrow.
The Mutare franchise is unfortunately sitting at the bottom of the log after Southern City bowed out of the league in the second round, while rivals, Police Defenders will end the season on fifth place above the Mutare Shumbas.
“As always, Mutare we are known for our fighting spirit and we will definitely give Sportivo a run for their money. We will not give it to them easy,” said Munetsi.
Meanwhile, tomorrow, Zimbabwe Rugby Union will be conducting a Level One coaching course at Mutare Sports Club. ZRU administrator, Yeukai Gandawa, said the course was meant to advance coaching expertise in the region.
“The fee for the Level One course will be $20, which should be paid to Zimbabwe Rugby Union. Please note that the fee is to be used for the educator’s travel as well as the course material costs,” said Gandawa.
Gandawa said all participants would do online courses on Rugby Ready, World Rugby Laws and First Aid in Rugby.
