THE Northerns regional i team dominated Southerns in the first women’s inter-regional one-day match series, winning by 10 wickets at Old Hararians Sports Club.

Northerns elected to field after winning the toss, dismissing Southerns for 129 runs in 35.5 overs. They then comfortably chased down the target in 14.1 overs, finishing on 131 without loss.

Nomvelo Sibanda struck early, claiming Natasha Mthomba’s wicket for a two-ball duck. Christabel Chatonzwa led the Northerns’ bowling attack with 5/31 in 7.5 overs.

Southerns’ top scorer was Chipo Muger-Tiripano with 46 runs from 55 balls, while captain Josephine Nkomo made 28 runs off 66 deliveries.

The three-match series will be used to select the Lady Chevrons team to face the United States in a five-match ODI series (October 17-28) at Harare Sports Club.

The USA women’s team gained ODI status in 2022 and have played only two international 50-over matches.
This tour marks their second visit to Zimbabwe.

The Lady Chevrons and the US have faced each other twice in 50-over cricket, with both teams winning once.

The second regional one day match is scheduled for Thursday with the series finale penciled in for Saturday. – @brandon_malvin
