Norton Town Council is finalising the procurement of critical service delivery equipment as part of efforts to improve municipal operations and enhance service delivery.
Presenting the Town Secretary’s Report during the 309 th Ordinary Council Meeting held last week, Town Secretary Mr Kizito Muhomba, said the local authority is expecting the delivery of two trucks — a honey sucker and a tipper truck — while other equipment already procured is also awaiting delivery.
Mr Muhomba also revealed that council had received an overwhelming response to its invitation for bids for the disposal of commercial stands, indicating strong investor interest in the municipality’s commercial land.
“The high level of interest demonstrates the demand for commercial land and the potential of the exercise to support local economic development,” he said.
“Revenue generated from the disposal of the stands will be instrumental in financing service – delivery programmes and procuring critical service -delivery equipment.”
Mr Muhomba said the relevant committee was yet to adjudicate on the submitted bids and make the necessary recommendations to Council.
He also reported that the firefighters’ pass-out ceremony had been successfully conducted and that the trained firefighters had since commenced duty.
“Efforts are underway to adequately resource the Fire and Rescue Services Section to ensure that it becomes fully operational,” said Mr Muhomba.
He added that Council’s efforts towards establishing an independent water treatment plant were progressing steadily.
“The Norton Water Investment Symposium is scheduled for 21 August 2026 at the University of Zimbabwe Innovation Hub,” he said.
“Preparations for the symposium are currently underway and include stakeholder engagement, logistical arrangements and the finalisation of the programme.”
