NORTON Town Council has procured new equipment for road maintenance and now boasts of a full complement of road equipment.

In an interview, town engineer Bester Maramba said the excavator was procured two weeks ago, the grader last year and the SDLG in 2022.

“So today we are training our operators on how to use the excavator,” she said.

“The excavator is used for deep excavations and we also use it for loading gravel. It can also be used for excavating gravel and also when you excavate the gravel, you need to heap it first before we put it into our tippers.”
Eng Maramba said Norton town council has two tippers and a dumper.

“We use this equipment for road maintenance, including the bowser, so we can form a road, grade a road and compact a road using the equipment that we have as Norton town council,” she said.

“Forming, grading and compaction, we can do with the equipment that we have since we have the whole complement of equipment required. What we cannot do is to surface the road.”
