Norton Town Council has partnered with the University of Zimbabwe to undertake a feasibility study to be used to seek partners to build a 50 mega-litre water treatment plant.
Acting public relations officer, Mr Leeroy Kaponda, said the council is struggling to provide portable water to supply residents and ratepayers.
“Norton gets five to seven megalitres from Harare, supplying Norton with water for five hours,” he said.
The feasibility study was the talk of the town, with residents asking about the council’s plans towards the project.
At the 296th ordinary council meeting, town secretary Mr Kizito Muhomba said an assessment of existing infrastructure was conducted, demonstrating council’s commitment to establishing its own water treatment plant.
Mr Kaponda said Norton Town Council has officially completed its client satisfaction survey and was assisted by the Midlands State University’s Centre for Public Policy and Devolution.
He said the survey covered Norton residents and ratepayers and council workers.
“Norton Town Council scored 58,2 against a target of 60 percent client satisfaction and 60 percent employee satisfaction against a target of 65 percent,” said Mr Kaponda.
He said the survey will help the council in mapping areas for improvement as it enters into the 2026 to 2030 strategy under National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
