Note from a hero’s grandson

Magama Tongogara Jr

Western influence has definitely had a major impact on the youth because the West has a very powerful brainwashing weapon called the media.

The youth aren’t lost, they are just misdirected since they tend to forget what our people, our country, our culture has to offer as Zimbabwe.

For youths to value the liberation struggle and their heroes, first we need to preach this gospel everywhere. Whatever youths are into – music, sports, dressing etc – we need to figure out a way to implement and involve our heroes and the struggle in these extra curricular activities.

Again, media comes into the picture.

The history of these heroes and what they went through should also be introduced into the school curriculum, not just via books, but via videos, trips to specific places that hold meaning to the heroes and the struggle.

Magama Tongogara Jr is the late Zanla commander’s eldest grandchild.
