NOVELIST Jerry More Nyazungu launched a book titled The Chartered Vendor on Friday.
The book is a guide to becoming a successful salesperson in Africa, and local examples were used for people to relate.
Nyazungu covered all fundamental areas in sales, such as prospecting, follow-ups, closing, and negotiations in the book.
Speaking to H-Metro, Nyazungu said he sold sweets and bananas in Budiriro and Glen View for 12 years, which helped him to negotiate and close deals, a skill which has helped him in business to date.
“Sales should be taught in our schools, even universities. l believe that if every kid is empowered with good selling skills from ECD, they won’t struggle to make ends meet.
“l faced some criticism, and backbiting from other local authors and local businesspeople. We suffer from the pull him/her down syndrome, but when people criticise and insult you for no reason, you know that you are doing a good job.
“I hope the book will be adopted by learning institutions and companies as a manual on selling and closing deals the African way. Zimbabweans do not require handouts from donors; they need to be empowered with selling skills,” he said.
Nyazungu is currently working on building a local sales university, which will teach practical ways of selling.
