Nozibele Mayaba has reflected on an emotional moment after seeing her independently published books on the shelves of Exclusive Books stores across South Africa.
Sharing the news on social media, Mayaba revealed that she once doubted whether her latest book, “Let Me Tell You Something”, would reach major bookstores without the backing of a traditional publisher.
“Unlike ‘Positively Me’, ‘Let Me Tell You Something’ is independently published. One of my biggest concerns was whether the book would sell and whether we’d be able to expand our distribution without the resources and backing of a publisher,” she wrote.
Mayaba said that she had previously been told to forget about getting into stores like Exclusive Books because they “only deal with publishers”. Despite the discouragement, she continued working and praying.
About a month ago, the author received a call from the head of procurement at Exclusive Books requesting copies of the book for stores nationwide. “Our book. Without a pitch. Not me chasing. Not me trying to convince someone. Just a call,” she shared.
The moment became emotional when she walked into a store and saw both her books on the shelves.
“I had a teary moment walking into the store this morning and finding both books on the shelves. Moments like these will forever be big for me because, if I’m honest, I grew up feeling like these kinds of spaces were never written for the likes of me,” she wrote.
Mayaba added that faith played a major role in her journey.
“But because God… He writes stories differently,” she said.
Her book, “Let Me Tell You Something”, is a year-long devotional rooted in scripture, faith and personal storytelling.
It explores themes including healing, forgiveness, courage and overcoming difficult seasons in life. –IOL
