NRZ coal train goes up in Flames

A NATIONAL Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) goods train ferrying coal to Zambia burst into flames at Pandamatenga siding — sending shockwaves through the rail network and prompting an emergency response.

NRZ spokesperson Andrew Kunambura confirmed the dramatic incident, which occurred earlier today as the train rolled out of Hwange, hauling a coal cargo.

“The train caught fire en route to Zambia,” said Kunambura. “Rescue teams from Hwange Local Board have been dispatched and are heading to the scene.”

Luckily, early reports indicate no casualties and customer cargo remains safe, but investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
