Mr Masikati said in addition to normal passenger train services, there would be a special train operating from Harare to Bulawayo on Thursday to cater for school children and holiday travellers.
“Another special train will also be operated from Harare to Mutare on 5 April 2012, to ferry holiday travellers and school children during the forthcoming holiday,” Mr Masikati said.
He said commuter trains in Harare and Bulawayo would not operate from Friday to Monday since most people who use them close for the Easter holidays.
The Bulawayo to Francistown train would also be suspended during the period with normal services resuming on April 13, 2012.
Meanwhile, Mr Masikati castigated gold panners who were digging along and under railway lines, saying this was highly dangerous and risky to the movement of both passenger and goods trains in the country.
He also took a swipe at people who were stealing some steel structures at rail flyover bridges, a move he described as “disastrous and catastrophic”.
Mr Masikati also warned the public against sitting and lying on railway lines where they risked being run over trains. — New Ziana.
