Zimra boosts staff at Beitbridge Border Post

He said the 63 had been taken from less busy stations. Zimra has a staff complement of 141 at Beitbridge yet they need 241 to operate at full strength.
The Department of Immigration has also added eight more officers to their staff complement of 55 to ensure a speedy flow of traffic.
South Africa has also deployed 41 more immigration officers to ports of entry in Limpopo province, in anticipation of an increase in traffic.
Beitbridge Border Post is already a hive of activity as people trickle in from South Africa for the holidays.
Figures from the Department of Immigration indicate that they are clearing around        6 000 people per day, with the number expected to peak today.
Commissioner-General Pasi made the  revelations during a tour of Beitbridge Border Post with the new Zimra board  members who are on a visit to assess the parastatal’s state of preparedness with regards to traffic movement during the holidays.
He said they were working towards finding a lasting solution to the challenges at Beitbridge Border Post, which he said  were mainly caused by the lack of infrastructure.
“We have a serious problem in terms of adequate infrastructure at the border post.
“This is impacting negatively on the proper management and implementation of our programmes.
“We hope that the one stop border post project will help ease some of the challenges we are facing,” said Mr Pasi.
