NRZ introduces multi-ride ticket system

multi-ride tickets cost US$1,20 per week and US$4,80 per month only,” he said.
Mr Masikati said NRZ had a social obligation to provide people with affordable transport.
He said many people preferred cheap commuter trains for transport.
He urged people to observe safety precautions when riding onto the trains and avoid sitting on window edges and door rails.
“It is important to note that safety takes precedence in all NRZ operations,” Mr Masikati said.
He said the Government introduced commuter trains in July 2001.
They were introduced at a time when many urban commuters were subjected to high fares by other transport providers.
“The commuter train services were well received as they immensely benefited the urban commuters in Bulawayo and Harare.
Mr Masikati said rail passenger services the world over were not profit driven.
“It is also pertinent to note that the core business of the NRZ is freight traffic, which constitutes more than 94 percent of the revenue earnings for the organisation,” he said.
The commuter trains are popularly known as Freedom Trains for providing cheap services to the people.
