A crew reportedly abandoned the passenger train from Victoria Falls to Bulawayo yesterday morning at Luveve siding when they learnt that their colleagues had downed tools.
In Bulawayo, hundreds of workers gathered at Raylton Sports Club from 8am until they dispersed at 1pm.
They said they have not been paid allowances since the introduction of the multi-currency system in 2009 and salaries for the past two months.
When our Bulawayo Bureau news crew visited Raylton in the morning, hundreds of workers who included artisans, enginemen, examiners, rail controllers and office clerks were milling around the sports club.
The workers drawn from four unions, Zimbabwe Amalgamated Railway Workers’ Union, Railway Association of Yard Operating Staff, Zimbabwe Railways Artisans Union and Railway Association of Enginemen were waiting for their representatives who had gone to Mhlahlandlela Government Complex to meet management and labour officers for arbitration.
There were also police officers stationed at Raylton while others were at NRZ building at the corner of Fife Street and 10th Avenue.
