COMEDIAN Ntando van Moyo feels he has come of age and is now ready to hold a one-man show that will pull a huge crowd.
Locally, when comedians perform, they usually share the stage with two others, but of late, comedians such as award-winning Doc Vikela, Simba the Comic King and Long John have been staging shows alone.
Moyo, who founded the successful Umahlekisa Comedy Club, has decided to test his popularity by staging his own show at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel on July 2.
He said he has enough comic material to crack ribs for the duration of his set.
“Comedy has grown locally as the material is there to entertain people for one and a half hours. I’ve been working hard to get the script right so that people are well entertained,” said Moyo.
He said the show would satirise topical issues.
“We’ll look at the lighter side of the recent xenophobic attacks in Zambia, bond notes, factionalism in the various political parties and the blesser phenomenon that has gripped Southern Africa,” said Moyo.
The first local comedian to hold a successful one-man show was award winning Carl Joshua Ncube in 2010. Called The Big Announcement, the show was staged at the Harare International Conference Centre.
